French automaker Citroen will begin its India innings in 2020 with the C5 Aircross SUV. In 2021, Citroen will introduce a new compact SUV. Now, Autocar India reports that the third product from Citroen will be a midsize SUV which will rival the Hyundai Creta. The SUV is still in its development phase.
The new Citroen midsize SUV will be based on the C4 Cactus SUV which is sold in several global markets. The new Citroen SUV will be highly localised and it will be specifically designed for the Indian market. The high localisation will also help Citroen to keep costs in check and launch the SUV with a competitive price tag.
The upcoming midsize SUV from Citroen is expected to draw power from a 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol and a 1.5-litre diesel engine. The same engines will be deployed on the compact SUV, but the power output might be different. The new midsize SUV might also get some sort of hybrid system.
With the SUV segment booming in the Indian market, Citroen has opted for the all-SUV lineup in the country. But the pricing and sales and service network will play a vital role in the success of Citroen in India. The new Citroen midsize SUV will take on the likes of Hyundai Creta and the Kia Seltos.
