We all know about the strategic partnership between Ford and Mahindra & Mahindra to share platforms, engines, electric vehicles and connected vehicle technology. Now, both the companies are working on sharing vehicle architecture.
Yes, according to a report from Economic Times, Ford and Mahindra will make an announcement on a C-segment SUV within a month. Apart from that, negotiations for a B-segment SUV and electric vehicle architecture are going on.
The report also states that the new C-segment SUVs are codenamed as W601 and W605 and the sourcing of architecture has been already started. The new SUV is expected to be developed at Mahindra’s Chakan plant.
Ford will introduce the new C-segment SUV which will be based on the Mahindra’s architecture and it is likely to underpin the upcoming new-gen XUV500. Mahindra can also benefit from Ford’s B-segment architecture and can develop a monocoque SUV. The alliance is expected to save over ₹7,000 crore.
Apart from sharing architecture, Mahindra will also supply BS-VI petrol engines to Ford. The BS-VI engines will power current and future Ford products. To expand Ford’s reach in the country, Mahindra dealers will also retail Ford cars in select locations.
