Previously we had reported that Ford will end its independent business in India and will form a new JV with Mahindra & Mahindra. But now, it looks like Ford has no plans to shut its business in India. Yes, a report from The Economic Times states that Ford is planning to invest $1 billion in India which is a part of the global restructuring process.
One half of the investment will be used to develop two new SUVs and the other half will be utilised for the company’s partnership with Mahindra and this project has been named as ‘Project Black’.
The two new SUVs have been codenamed as BX744 and BX745. The BX744 will be an SUV developed for the Indian market while the BX745 will be a global SUV. The report states that the BX744 will be a sub-4-metre SUV rivaling the Maruti Vitara Brezza. It could be a new-gen EcoSport or a new SUV which will replace the EcoSport in India.
The BX745 will be a bigger SUV which will rival the likes of the Hyundai Creta. The report also states that the BX744 will be launched in 2021 and the BX745 will be introduced in 2022. Apart from that Ford will also phase out the exports from India to European markets due to the stringent emission norms.
