World’s largest two-wheeler manufacturer Hero MotoCorp has received BS-VI certification for the Splendor iSmart. The Hero Splendor iSmart becomes India’s first BS-VI compliant two-wheeler. The Splendor iSmart received the Type Approval Certificate from International Centre for Automotive Technology (ICAT) after the two-wheeler was tested for BS-VI emission norms.
Hero MotoCorp is way ahead of the deadline for the BS-VI emission norms. All the vehicles need to be BS-VI compliant from April 1, 2020. In the process, Hero MotoCorp has also overtaken its former partner, Honda, to introduce India’s first BS-VI compliant two-wheeler.
Hero MotoCorp has also stated that the company has the technology to meet the BS-VI emission norms and the next goal is to update the entire product portfolio of motorcycles and scooters to comply with the BS-VI emission norm.
To adhere to the BS-VI emission norm, the Hero Splendor iSmart required to be equipped with a closed-loop catalytic converter, a fuel canister, fuel injection unit, ECU and lambda (O2) sensor. The entire update has been done by Hero’s R&D centre in Jaipur. But Hero MotoCorp is yet to reveal the launch details of the BS-VI Splendor iSmart.
