Hyundai has launched the Kona electric SUV in the Indian market. The Hyundai Kona becomes the first electric SUV in India and it is priced at ₹25.30 lakh ex-showroom (India). The Hyundai Kona electric SUV will come to India via CKD (Completely Knocked Down) route.
The Hyundai Kona electric is identical to the conventional avatar of the SUV. The Kona EV gets a distinct look due to the absence of a front grille and exhaust. The Kona EV gets split headlamp set up with sleek LED DRLs. The electric SUV also gets body cladding and roof rails, which gives it a rugged look.
The Hyundai Kona is equipped with 17-inch alloy wheels and it is offered in four colour schemes: Marina Blue, Phantom Black, Typhoon Silver, Polar White and Polar White/Black dual-tone. The dual-tone color scheme gets a black roof and it is available at an additional cost of ₹20,000.
The interior of the Hyundai Kona electric features an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a 7-inch digital instrument cluster, heads-up display, automatic climate control, wireless charging and there is also an option of having only driver side AC vents running.
Other prominent features of Kona EV includes air purifier, rear AC vents, electrically adjustable, heated and ventilated front seats, sunroof, heated ORVMs and electric parking brake. The safety features of the electric SUV include six airbags, ABS with EBD, ESC, traction control, hill-start assist, ISOFIX child seat mounts, rear parking sensors, rear camera and TPMS. The SUV also gets a Virtual Engine Sound System, which is a safety feature for other vehicles and pedestrians.
The Hyundai Kona EV is equipped with a 100kW motor delivering power to the front wheels. The power output of the electric motor is equivalent to 131bhp and 395Nm of torque. The electric motor draws power from a39.2kWh lithium-ion battery which delivers an ARAI-certified range of 452km. The electric SUV can sprint from 0-100km/h in just 9.7 seconds.
The battery can be charged up to 80 percent in under an hour using a fast-charger. And using a standard charger takes 6 hours 10 minutes to fully charge the battery. The electric SUV also comes with regenerative braking which can be adjusted via paddle shifters and there are three drive modes: Eco, Comfort and Sport.
Hyundai offers a portable home charger with the Kona EV. Apart from that Hyundai will also set up charging stations at its dealerships and select Indian Oil fuel stations in four major cities. The Hyundai Kona electric will take on the upcoming MG eZS electric SUV.
