South Korean automaker Kia Motors is all set to enter the Indian market by mid-2019. Now, Kia Motors India has revealed its aggressive product strategy in the country. Kia Motors India has stated that the company will introduce six cars in the next three years.
CEO and MD of Kia Motors India, Kookhyun Shim said that the company is considering to introduce six models in three years. Kia plans to launch one new model every six months till mid-2022. Kia has also revealed that it will not introduce a sub-4 metre hatchback in the country.
That means the Kia Picanto and Kia Rio will not come to India. Instead, Kia will initially focus on the premium end of the market. Kookhyun Shim said that Kia wants to be a premium brand in India, but if the need arises, the company will bring in a compact car to India.
The Kia SP Concept will be launched in the Indian market by mid-2019 and it will be a locally manufactured SUV. The next locally manufactured product will be a sub-4 metre SUV based on the platform of Hyundai Carlino. It will rival the likes of Maruti Brezza, Ford EcoSport and Tata Nexon.
Kia will also introduce the Carnival MPV in the country which will be a CKD product. The Kia Carnival is a premium MPV and it will be the first global model from the company. The Kia Carnival will be a product for customers seeking more luxurious MPV than the Toyota Innova Crysta.
Kia Motors is also considering to launch the Ceed C-segment hatchback and that will be a CKD product. There is no information about the remaining models. We expect all the six models to be premium and will come with a host of features.
