Mahindra has finally shed some light on the much-awaited Y400 SUV based on the new SsangYong Rexton. The carmaker’s flagship SUV will be called the Mahindra Alturas, and as per Autocar India, the vehicle will be launched on November 24.
The Mahindra Alturas was initially to be launched in October but was delayed because dealers wanted the Marazzo to gain some fame. The launch was delayed to November and now, further delayed to the 24th of this month. If you are thinking of the new Mahindra Alturas, here’s what you can expect.
Mahindra Alturas design
The new Mahindra Alturas is based on the latest-gen SsangYong Rexton and sports a similar design. The major change, however, is the front grille, which portrays a more Mahindra design. The Mahindra Alturas will be carmaker’s flagship model, sitting above the XUV500 in Mahindra’s line up.
The Mahindra Alturas will be powered by a 2.2-litre diesel engine that will make 180 bhp and 450 Nm of torque. The engine will be mated to a 7-speed automatic gearbox sourced from Mercedes. There will be no manual gearbox on offer.
The Mahindra Alturas will be offered in two variants — 2WD and 4WD (g2 and G4). There is no confirmation yet if the 4WD variant will be part-time or permanent, but expect the Alturas to come with a low-range gearbox, to make the SUV a capable off-roader.
Features and interior
Expect the top-spec variant of the Alturas to feature a large touchscreen system, sunroof, navigation Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, leather upholstery, electric seats with memory function, and more. The new Mahindra Alturas will be a 7-seater while the third-row seating can fold away to make more luggage space.
