We all know about the strategic partnership between Mahindra & Mahindra and Ford to develop new vehicles. Now, a report from Livemint states that Mahindra has started retailing Ford cars under the expansion of the alliance.
The report states that select Mahindra dealerships have started retailing Ford cars under the pilot project. Mahindra is selling Ford cars where Ford does not have an outlet or where the dealership is not performing well. Some Mahindra dealers are also setting up service centres for Ford cars.
A Ford spokesperson revealed that the US automaker is leveraging on Mahindra's dealer network in areas where it doesn’t plan to open an outlet. Currently, the pilot project has been rolled out in 15 towns and Ford has benefitted from this major development.
As compared to Mahindra, Ford does not have a wide sales and service network in the country. The new pilot project will help Ford to expand its reach and will also boost the sales of its vehicles.
The report also states that this new alliance is also benefiting the Mahindra dealerships as it brings additional revenue to the dealers. But Ford is yet to officially confirm this new development.
Apart from retailing Ford cars, Mahindra will also co-develop SUVs, electric vehicles and connected car solutions. Both the manufacturers will also share powertrains.
