Nissan Leaf EV — the most selling electric car in the global markets is finally coming to India. We already know that Nissan has been working on bringing the Leaf EV to India. Now, a report from GaadiWaadi states that the Nissan Leaf EV will be launched in the Indian market in the fourth quarter of 2019.
The Nissan Leaf EV is likely to be launched in India by this year’s festive season. Major automakers in India are developing EVs for the Indian market. Hyundai has already launched the Kona EV in India and MG Motors India is all set to introduce eZS electric SUV in India. Both the Kona and eZS are SUVs and it will be interesting to how the Leaf EV hatchback performs in the Indian market.
The Nissan Leaf EV was introduced back in 2010 and it is the first electric car to achieve 4 lakh sales milestone in the global market. The Nissan Leaf EV will be an expensive affair in India and is expected to be limited to metro cities, at least initially, till the charging infra comes into place.
Nissan might also introduce e-Power technology, which will make the Leaf EV more practical for the Indian conditions. The Nissan e-Power technology comprises of an electric motor and a small petrol engine to charge the battery. This will eliminate the need for an external charger and it will be an ideal setup for the Indian market.
Not much is known about the tech specs of the India-bound Leaf EV. We will know more details about the electric hatchback as the launch timeline gets closer.
