Czech automaker Skoda is working on a new mid-size SUV for the Indian market under the India 2.0 project. Now, CarWale reports that Skoda will reveal a mid-size SUV concept at the 2020 Auto Expo. The concept will preview the upcoming mid-size SUV which is slated to be launched in 2021.
The new mid-size SUV is expected to be the Kamiq and it will be based on the Volkswagen T-Cross. The SUV will be underpinned by the MQB A0-IN platform, which has been tweaked for the Indian conditions. As compared to the Euro-spec model, the India-spec model will have a longer wheelbase and will be bigger in dimensions.
The increase in dimensions will result in a spacious cabin with ample amount of legroom. The exterior and interior design of the SUV is likely to be similar to the European model. But the India-spec model is expected to get larger doors and windows to make the cabin feel airy.
The new Skoda mid-size SUV is expected to draw power from a 1.5-litre, four-cylinder petrol engine that churns out 130bhp. The lower-spec variants might also get the 1-litre turbocharged petrol engine that produces 115bhp. Skoda India might also introduce a CNG variant and there are no details about the diesel version of the SUV.
When launched in India, the new mid-size SUV from Skoda will take on the likes of next-gen Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, MG Hector, Nissan Kicks and the upcoming Volkswagen T-Cross.
