Toyota is all set to launch the sportier version of its best-selling SUV, the Fortuner. Yes, Toyota will launch the new Fortuner TRD Sportivo in the Indian market on September 12, 2019. The Toyota Fortuner TRD Sportivo has been already showcased to the dealers in India in July 2019.
TRD stands for Toyota Racing Department and it is a subsidiary of Toyota. But the India-spec Toyota Fortuner TRD Sportivo is unlikely to get any performance upgrades and will only feature cosmetic updates to make the Fortuner look sporty as compared to the standard variant of the SUV.
The Toyota Fortuner TRD Sportivo will feature new bumpers, revamped front grille, faux skid plates, newly designed alloy wheels, red and black accents on the doors and TRD badging. The interior of the Fortuner TRD Sportivo will be similar to the standard model except for some minor changes such as new seat upholstery with contrast stitching and TRD branding.
The Toyota Fortuner TRD Sportivo is likely to draw power from a 2.8-litre turbocharged diesel engine that churns out 174bhp and 450Nm of torque. The engine will be mated to a 6-speed automatic gearbox. Expect the Fortuner TRD Sportivo to carry a price tag of around ₹33 lakh ex-showroom. The Fortuner TRD Sportivo will rival the likes of Ford Endeavour, Mitsubishi Pajero Sport, Mahindra Alturas G4 and Isuzu MU-X.
